“Is it possible to write a slightly-serious artist statement/bio and not come across as an absolute tool?” An Exploration.
This website is in a state of perpetual, snail-paced rearranging… Like most things in life projects don’t always fit perfectly into one category and that’s if they were documented well enough to begin with. While probably rooted in painting, the more I create the further I find myself branching beyond any one medium or style. More than anything I try to maintain a daily routine of creativity. On the mildest days maybe that’s just some puttering and doodling, on the wildest… it’s gotten pretty weird.
To me “Art” is just a way of fulfilling my love for the feeling of figuring out something new. The brief calm that comes after piecing together a chunk of some unknown. There’s a satisfaction that comes from capturing a feeling or a moment in an honest way. Sometimes projects never get to that point personally but it’s something I’m always chasing. Finding the “right” mark after making the “wrong” move ten times before. I tend to bounce around through styles, mediums and ideas. Themes vary, I’m a believer artists can make work ranging from humorous to serious, occasionally blurring those lines between and beyond as we see fit. Stick with me, but artists are… human beings… and perhaps… we can have… a broad range of expression? Often my process flows between being heavily prepared and finely tuned to fluid to entirely of the moment.
